GOVTECH, TRANSPARENCY, AND THE FUTURE OF DIGITAL GOVERNANCE IN AFRICA

Posted on December 7, 2025 0

Across Africa, digital governance reform is accelerating, driven by the need for transparent public institutions, efficient service delivery, and stronger citizen engagement. AFDEG 2026 places these priorities at the centre of its Governance and Institutional Reform Track, bringing together national governments, regulatory authorities, civic-tech organisations, and legal experts.

Key themes include the role of digital identity, e-government systems, blockchain-enabled procurement, open data platforms, and the use of artificial intelligence in public administration. These tools offer credible pathways for reducing corruption, expanding access to public services, and rebuilding institutional trust.

However, AFDEG recognises that technology alone cannot solve governance challenges. Equally important are strong legal frameworks, accountability mechanisms, political will, and inclusive participation. The Forum’s governance sessions will therefore combine case studies, drafting labs, and continental policy dialogue designed to produce actionable and scalable outputs.

One of AFDEG’s ambitions is to support African countries in adopting governance models aligned with Agenda 2063, the AU Digital Transformation Strategy (2020–2030), and global best practices. Through partnerships with the Kufuor Foundation, Circle International, and the Ghana Scholarly Society, AFDEG aims to become a permanent knowledge hub for digital governance reform.
