AFDEG 2026 LAUNCHES A CONTINENTAL MOVEMENT FOR DIGITAL EDUCATION AND GOVERNANCE

Posted on December 7, 2025 0

The African Forum on Digital Education and Governance (AFDEG) formally begins a new chapter in Africa’s digital transformation agenda. Established as a multi-stakeholder platform anchored in Ghana, AFDEG brings together policymakers, academics, innovators, and development partners to shape the continent’s digital future through evidence-based dialogue, capacity-building, and cross-sector collaboration.

AFDEG’s mission is grounded in the recognition that Africa’s demographic growth and rapid digitalisation present both opportunities and structural challenges. While digital tools can expand educational access, strengthen governance systems, and catalyse economic competitiveness, gaps in infrastructure, affordability, and institutional trust continue to limit the continent’s potential.

The Forum’s 2026 inaugural edition—scheduled for 29 June to 4 July in Accra—will showcase Africa’s expertise, highlight innovative solutions, and provide a space for developing frameworks that can be adopted across national and regional systems. With the support of the John A. Kufuor Foundation, Circle International, the Ghana Scholarly Society, the British Council, the British High Commission, and several multilateral and private-sector partners, AFDEG is designed not merely as an event but as a year-round ecosystem of research, policy development, and practical implementation.

As Africa positions itself within the global digital landscape, AFDEG seeks to ensure that digital transformation enhances equity, transparency, and long-term development.
